Three Lives Open

Participation
Unlike our other events, this tournament is open to all players regardless of their nationality or main residence. Registration is possible from now until 10.05.2016 via the registration page on this website.

Classes
During their registration, participants may choose to play in either the expert, advanced or intermediate class. Depending on a player's expected average performance rate (PR) the following restrictions apply:

  • Participants with a PR lower 7,5 have to play in the expert class.
  • Participants with a PR lower 12,5 are chooses to play in the expert or advanced class.
  • Participants with a PR of 12,5 or chooses to play in the expert, advanced or intermediate class.
The expected average PR generally relates to the average PR achieved in previous WBIF tournaments. In exceptional cases the tournament direction may promote players to a stronger class, if their most recent results suggest a significant change of playing strength. Participants without a previous PR generally play in the expert class. Exceptions must be approved by the tournament direction.

The tournament direction will disqualify players from the tournament afterwards, if their classification - for example after a longer break or first participation in a tournament - were not applicable.

Where to play
In general, matches have to be played at GridGammon. Participants without an account at GridGammon may ask for registration at support@gridgammon.com. Instructions on how to register are available on our website at Help / FAQ.

Format
All matches are played to 11 points. The tournament will be played in triple-K.O.-Swiss format: Each participant will stay in the tournament until he has either lost 3 times and is therefore eliminated or otherwise he has won the tournament with fewer losses. The resulting rankings are based solely on the number of rounds a participant stayed in the tournament. No tie-break criteria will apply. The calculated PR doesn't have any influence on the tournament rankings.

Pairings for rounds 1 through 3 are drawn randomly and rounds will be played simultaneously. After round 3, parings will be drawn per round according to the Swiss format, applying the tournament software by Hans-Jürgen Werner. In addition to this announcement please also note the tournament rules for WBIF Germany.

Schedule
The tournament will start a few days after registration closing. The simultaneously played rounds 1-3 should be completed within up to 4 weeks, each match of the subsequent rounds should be played within up to 3 weeks. The duration of the tournament will depend on the number of participants.
